What this covers
CSA Z1003 sets the benchmark against which employer conduct on psychological health and safety is measured, and it is organised around thirteen workplace factors rather than around individual wellbeing. Leaders work through which of those factors their own decisions actually control, since most sit with management rather than with an employee assistance programme. The session is built around documented practice, because documented training of the people who apply a policy is what demonstrates reasonable care.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session, participants can:
- Map the thirteen psychosocial factors in CSA Z1003 against decisions they personally make
- Identify the two or three factors where their own team carries the most exposure
- Redesign one recurring management practice to reduce psychological risk, and write it down
- State what the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSIB actually require, without overstating it
- Distinguish accommodation obligations from performance management, and handle both without conflating them
- Brief their own managers on what changed and why, using language that survives repetition
Session outline
| Time | Segment |
|---|---|
| 0–45 min | The obligation. OHSA, CSA Z1003, and WSIB chronic mental stress, stated precisely. |
| 45–105 min | The thirteen factors. Which are yours, which are the organisation's, which are nobody's. |
| 105–120 min | Break |
| 120–210 min | Exposure audit. Working on your own team's actual practices, with structured peer challenge. |
| 210–285 min | Redesign lab. Rebuilding one recurring practice, then defending it to the room. |
| 285–360 min | Accommodation and performance. Where they overlap, and the documentation that protects everyone. |
Delivered as two half-days, the exposure audit is set as work between sessions, which materially improves the redesign lab.
What participants receive
- A workbook including the thirteen-factor exposure audit and the redesign template
- A certificate of completion showing contact hours
- A reference summary suitable for inclusion in the organisation's training records
